Introducing Carapace.
Last year, I did something wildly outside of my comfort zone and wrote an entry for the Not Quite Write Prize’s inaugural Flesh Fiction competition.
If you’re not familiar already, Ed and Amanda run regular flash fiction contests, and this time they decided to do something a lil different.
Writing Carapace was exceptional fun for me, and I love these characters so much that you will likely see them again. I’m thrilled to say Carapace was selected as the 2nd place in its category, which also granted inclusion in volume one of the Flesh Fiction story collection.
I wrote the story under a new name, Alix Armitage, to separate this kind of writing (adult, romance leaning towards erotica) from my usual YA style, but it is indeed me! The pseudonym is not because I’m in any way ashamed of having written smut, it’s purely because I don’t want anyone who loved The Dark Within Us to be shocked by this definitely-for-adults story.
The whole volume is excellent, by the way - funny, sexy, atmospheric and sometimes surprisingly moving. If you’d like a snag a copy yourself either head over to the Big River (the image here is linked), or else use the button below to buy directly from the team at Not Quite Write.
